Basic Office Decor
People spend literally thousands of hours a year in offices. These can be small industrial companies with dimly lighted basement offices or gleaming air conditioned offices in a big city high rise. But regardless of the type of office, there will be office furniture, including office chairs. Although ubiquitous, there is a vast variety of different types of office chairs. Simple task chairs, high priced ergonomic mesh chairs, and even high tech self heating chairs with built in massagers. But with all the variety in form, nearly all office chairs come in dull office colors, ranging from gray to black, occasionally navy blue or brown. This is fine for most offices that want to project a traditional staid and unobtrusive atmosphere, but for companies that want to project a more modern and energetic appearance, these traditional colors won’t do.
Office Décor: The Office Chair
Some modern businesses have decided to avoid the usual boring office décor and give their offices a more upbeat feel. This can include brightly painted walls, bold artworks and even unusual colors for the basic office furniture, such as pink office chairs! Believe it or not, there are many different models of pink office chairs manufactured by a variety of different companies. Many businesses have found that by creating a brighter more vibrant office environment they can increase employee productivity and job satisfaction.
Buying an Office Chair: The Basics
Pink or not, there are many different things to consider when buying an office chair. One of the primary considerations is how you will be using it. Will you be sitting in the chair nearly constantly for eight hours a day, or will you just use it to sit occasionally while you go about your business? Once you’ve decided how you will be using your chair throughout your work day, you’ll want to consider at your budget. Office chairs can range from simple $30 chairs to elaborate chairs with advanced features that can cost over a thousand dollars. Once you’ve determined how you want to use the chair and them amount you can spend, you can take the next step and start comparing the chairs that meet your requirements.
Ergonomics
If you’re going to be sitting in the chair for hours at a time, you’ll want to make sure it is ergonomically sound (ergonomics is the study of how things interact with the human body). This is one place you don’t want to skimp. Sitting in a poorly designed chair for hours can lead to a variety of neck and back problems.
People come in many shapes and sizes. This is why it is critical that your office chair (pink or otherwise!) is adjustable. A chair that is ergonomically perfect for one person might be completely wrong for another. It is critical that the height of the chair is adjustable. You want to be able to choose a comfortable height while you are working. Fortunately, this is a standard feature on all but the most basic office chairs (and you want to pass over any chairs without this feature). Usually the height can be adjusted with a lever under the seat. On many chairs, this lever allows the user to either allow the chair to lean back or remain firmly in place.
An adjustable backrest is important. This is a somewhat less common feature than adjustable height, but is not unusual. You want to be change the backrest height as well as move it backward and forward. It is also important to have proper lumbar support (support for the lower part of your back). Lower back pain is probably the most common complaint of people who sit in office chairs for long periods, and poor lumbar support is the most common cause. Although not as critical, adjustable armrests (for those who want armrests on their chairs – many people prefer chairs without armrests) are also nice.
Other features can help make a chair more ergonomic. A chair that swivels and allows the person sitting in it to turn around without having to drag the chair or turn their neck can help prevent neck and back strain. The type of material is also important. If a chair is only going to be used for short stretches of time, a plastic or leather covered chair is fine. If the chair is going to be used for hours at a time, padding is important as is using a material such as cloth that allows better airflow to prevent the build-up of heat and moisture.

Price
There is a vast range of prices of office chairs. The inexpensive office chairs probably the most commonly purchased chairs (and quite often purchased by those who don’t need to sit in them!). These chairs are usually fabric covered, swivel, allow some height adjustment and have rollers on the base. Although not fancy, they are fine for people who will be getting up frequently and not sitting for hours on end. They usually run about fifty dollars or so, but can often be found for less. For high end office chairs, the sky’s the limit, with many chairs running over a thousand dollars each. Higher end chairs usually have many more adjustable parts that allow you to customize the chair to your shape. They are also often made of higher quality materials. If you spend hours a day in your chair at your desk, the comfort benefits of a higher priced office chair can make the extra cost worth the money.
Assembly
Most office chairs (pink office chairs included!) come unassembled. Assembling the chairs can be tricky, especially some of the more elaborate chairs. If you are not handy with a screwdriver and wrench, you may want to look into having someone else assemble the chair. Fortunately, many better retailers offer assembly services for an extra charge.
